The only true rule in a photowalk is there is no grand rule. Shoot up, shoot sideways, new technology or old... use a popular DSLR, a more unusual Graflex like the one above, an inexpensive point and shoot or a disposable. Age and experience are unimportant.
Your own personal rules for the day can change on a whim. Many of the photographers in Georgetown had multiple lenses, and used some rather large ones. Noting that, I decided to go the opposite route, sticking to my own everyday “kit” lens that came with my camera, and I even kept the same (polarizing) filter on the whole time. Rather than focus (no pun intended) on the equipment, I choose to ignore it and just enjoy the possible subjects of the photographs.
No one way is the correct way, and the kids along on the trip will surely love their own pictures, as they should.
