Brushstroke
Brushstroke
The Hirshhorn Museum's prominently placed "Brushstroke" sculpture by Roy Lichtenstein measures 32 feet tall and is constructed of painted aluminum. The brushstroke theme was one he utilized in both paintings and sculptures through several decades. His painted aluminum sculpture work began in the 1980s.
The early stage for the work was completed in model form in 1996, approximately one year before his death.
The five-ton sculpture was transported to the Hirshhorn on two trucks and assembled with the help of two cranes in the fall of 2003.
