Midway Free Library & Garden

Give a book, take a book — and more!
344 3rd Street, Hanover, PA

The Midway Free Library (MFL) is always open for anyone to borrow or add a book or two. If you find a book that looks interesting, take it with you and return it when you're finished.

Do you have a book at home that you'd like to share? Bring it by and add it to the library.

This Free Little Library is in the small community of Midway, located one block from the border between Hanover and Conewago Township. (Beside Trone Rental.) You'll find the library in the side yard at 344 3rd Street, Hanover. Enjoy gardens and flowers? Feel free to walk around the side yard and stop and rest on the bench if you’d like.

If you spot a book you'd like to borrow, feel free to take it with you and return it later. When bringing a book, place it directly in the library, or if there is no space to do so, place the book or books in the bin on the residence's porch.

Wish to stay up to date on the MFL? Stop by our Facebook page!

Like to support the library? Your donation of new or gently used books is a great way of doing so! (See current library needs below.) If you prefer to throw in a few bucks, you can do so through Buy Me a Coffee:

https://www.buymeacoffee.com/midwayfreelibr

Financial donations through Buy Me a Coffee will be used solely for the library, which will purchase books, bookmarks, library garden plants, and other items necessary to run the free library.

Questions? Email Andy at ostman4200@comcast.net.

Thank you!

Current library needs:

Thanks to the generosity of numerous friends of the MFL, we have an ample stockpile of many common genres. Our current specific needs are:

• Young Adult Books
• Nonfiction Works
• Diverse Voices

The Midway Free Library participates in the Read in Color initiative to share books by and about diverse voices. Various book lists are available online, and the Little Free Library organization has some suggestions at this link.

Are you an author? The MFL loves to share signed works by local authors! Contact Andy if interested.

In general, while all gifted books are appreciated, due to storage limitations, a donation of a book or two at a time is better than a large stack. :)

What else is in that free library?

While these items might not always be available, you may find custom MFL bookmarks, one-of-a-kind clay monoprint bookmarks, small 5x7 monoprints, or regional photographs.

Feel free to take one art item with you!

Want to share some of your own art? Perhaps a poem or short story that you wrote? Slip a page into the art folder!

What’s up with the plants?

While there are some bulbs, the bulk of the garden beds are planted with seeds for regional wildflowers and pollinator-supporting plants. Stop by and feel free to check out the library’s garden. And spread some positive green thumb vibes!
